Thirteen Islanders filed to run for positions on the City Council and School Board, according to the King County Elections website as of the May 19 filing deadline.
There will be three primaries in August — for School Board Director Position 4, City Council Position 4 and City Council Position 6 — to narrow the field from three candidates to two before the November general election.
The primary election will be held on Aug. 1, and the general election will take place on Nov. 7. For more, see www.kingcounty.gov/elections.
School Board
Position 4 is currently held by Adair Dingle, who is not running for re-election. Candidates for the seat include Diana Lein, Linhui Hao and Deborah Schneider Lurie.
Brian Giannini Upton and Caifeng Wu have filed to run for Position 2, currently held by Dave Myerson.
City Council
City Councilmember Benson Wong will run to retain Position 6, and will be challenged by Mark Coen and Elaine Kavalok.
Salim Nice and Henry Brown Jr. filed for Position 2 on the council, which is currently held by Dan Grausz. Brown had withdrawn as of May 22.
Grausz and Myerson had previously announced that they would not seek re-election, as did City Councilmember Jeff Sanderson, who holds Position 4. Joy Langley, Tom Acker and Tim Hunkapiller filed to run for that seat, though Hunkapillar also withdrew.
Acker ran against Mayor Bruce Bassett two years ago, and Nice ran against Councilmember Wendy Weiker.
Other races
King County Executive Dow Constantine is running for reelection, against Bill Hirt, Stan Lippmann and Goodspaceguy.
Islander John Urquhart will run again for King County Sheriff, against Mitzi Johanknecht.
