Mercer Island teen helps with youth marijuana prevention

A Mercer Island teen recently helped produce a marijuana Q&A video in partnership with the Washington State Department of Health’s “Listen to Your Selfie” prevention campaign.

Hannah Stewart, a senior at Mercer Island High School, is closely involved with the city’s Youth and Family Services Department (MIYFS) Healthy Youth Initiative and the high school’s Safe Club. In the online video, she presents with Dr. Jason Kilmer, associate professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at the University of Washington in Seattle.

MIYFS has brought Dr. Kilmer to speak to parents on Mercer Island in his role as assistant director of health and wellness for alcohol and other Drug Education in the UW’s Division of Student Life. He helped develop the web-based, youth self-assessment prevention tool offered to junior and senior MIHS students over the past two years.
