A Starbucks store manager barred a post office employee from all Starbucks on Mercer Island, with police officers as witnesses, after the suspect used his break at 12 p.m. on Sept. 20 to take multiple photos of women employed at the South end Starbucks.
Sept. 13
Car prowl: A thief broke through a passenger window in a Ford Expedition overnight in the 7900 block of S.E. 34th Street and stole a Dell computer bag and Sony thumb drive. The vehicle was parked in front of the victim’s residence.
Fender-bender: Two vehicles collided while simultaneously backing up in a parking garage in the 7900 block of S.E. 28th Street, according to the drivers’ statements. Damage was minimal.
Sept. 14
Stolen vehicle: Police located a stolen Honda Civic in the intersection of East Shorewood Drive and 90th Avenue S.E. at 8:47 a.m. during a check for abandoned, stolen vehicles in the area. The vehicle, registered to a Federal Way man, was stolen out of Auburn. A driver’s license and debit card belonging to a Kirkland car prowl victim were found along with a VISA card. Crossroads Towing impounded the vehicle.
DUI: Police stopped a 42-year-old Mercer Island man for speeding 10 mph over the limit in the 6800 block of 93rd Avenue S.E. one block from his residence. The driver’s speech was very slurred and he smelled of intoxicants. He admitted consuming alcohol and failed field sobriety tests. Police arrested him at 1:16 a.m. and gave him a courtesy transport home after he was processed at the MIPD.
Theft: A man purchased gum for $0.49 at the Mercer Island Walgreens at 6:08 p.m. and asked the cashier for change and bills. The cashier became confused, and the suspect left the store with the gum and $130 in cash. One witness was present.
Sept. 15
Bike theft: A bike worth $700 was stolen from the North Mercer Park and Ride. It belonged to a 49-year-old Bellevue man who locked it to the bike rack at 7:30 a.m., Sept. 15, and discovered it was missing when he returned at 5:30 p.m. There is no suspect information.
Purses found: A 19-year-old Tacoma woman reported finding two stolen purses at 2:30 p.m. in some bushes near the victim’s residence in the 2500 block of 70th Avenue S.E.
Paddle board theft: Someone stole an 11-foot paddle board worth $1,600 from a storage rack at the Mercer Island Shore Club in the 4100 block of East Mercer Way after Sept. 11. The board belonged to a 48-year-old woman whose friend saw that the board’s cable locks were tampered with before the theft.
Sept. 16
Minor in possession: Police arrested two 16-year-old boys during the MIHS football game at 8:09 p.m. The boys had brought liquor to the game.
Burglary: An unknown suspect burglarized a house after prying open two garage side doors and breaking off the deadbolts in the 8200 block of S.E. 33rd Place. A MLS lock box and Blackberry cell phone were stolen. The victims were in the process of moving out of the house and had been taking items out of the house for the past several months.
Sept. 17
Paddle board theft: A 40-year-old man’s paddle board was stolen from his residence in the 8900 block of North Mercer Way. The man last saw it on Sept. 15. There is no suspect information.
Car prowl: Three rifles and a hunting knife were stolen out of a Chevrolet Impala between 5 and 5:30 p.m. in the 2600 block of 84th Avenue S.E. The rifles belonged to a 24-year-old Seattle man who went fishing at Luther Burbank Park and left the guns in his trunk. Someone broke into his car through a window and opened the trunk.
Sept. 18
DUI: Police arrested a 21-year-old drunk driver who was speeding 12 mph over the limit at 1:11 a.m. in the 5400 block of Island Crest Way. The man refused field sobriety tests. His truck was impounded, and he was released to a sober friend after being processed.
Sept. 19
Paddle board theft: Two stand-up paddle boards were stolen from a rack near the waterfront on a 49-year-old man’s property in the 8000 block of Avalon Place. The theft occurred sometime after Sept. 10.
Camera theft: A Nikon D5000 was stolen from a residence in the 4200 block of Mercerwood Drive sometime after Sept. 16. It belonged to a 37-year-old woman whose family members had access to her home, along with several friends. Forced entry was not made into the house, but the woman does not suspect her relatives or friends. There is no suspect information.
Warrant: A 25-year-old man from Kalama was booked into the Issaquah City Jail on a local $1,000 warrant for driving with a suspended license. The Snohomish County Jail turned him over to the MIPD.
Sept. 20
Drugs: Police stopped a vehicle with expired tabs and a report of sale violation at 12:47 a.m. in the 6800 block of Island Crest Way. The vehicle had an odor of fresh marijuana and the driver, a 19-year-old Issaquah resident, admitted smoking with his passenger. A Kirkland Police Department K-9 unit came to the scene after the passenger did not consent to have the vehicle searched, though the driver gave permission. The narcotics dog confirmed the presence of drugs, and police impounded the vehicle on a search warrant. Police arrested the driver for the report of sale violation at 1:16 a.m.
Paddle board theft: Two “Hang Zen” paddle boards and one paddle were stolen from a residence in the 4100 block of East Mercer Way sometime between Sept. 16 and Sept. 19. The items, worth $1,200 total, belonged to a 51-year-old woman and were tied to a wooden rack outside with bike chains and two locks, which were also stolen. There is no suspect information.
Sept. 21
Arrest: Police arrested a 24-year-old man at 12:50 a.m. in the 6000 block of westbound I-90. The suspect was driving with a suspended license and had five counts of Failure To Appear on record. He was cited, and his vehicle was released to his passenger.
Trespass: Police arrested a 19-year-old male who entered his grandmother’s house in the 3000 block of 70th Avenue S.E. at 4:19 p.m. The teenager had called his grandmother, 79, who was out of town. She wanted him to be arrested for trespassing in her house, as he was not allowed to be inside, according to the police report. He was booked into the Issaquah Jail.
