The annual Mercer Island Fine Arts Showcase kicks off on Tuesday, March 27 at Mercer Island High School.
The program, an annual event for over 30 years, features art and performances from students throughout the district.
On Tuesday, the event begins at 5:30 and run until 9 p.m. Kids art activities will be hosted by the MI Visual Arts League, Islander Middle School and MIHS Art Clubs, as well sat the high school’s art honor society.
There will be an art scavenger hunt with prizes, as well as performances by the MIHS jazz ensemble and jazz choir, the Lakeridge steel drum band and IMS and MIHS chamber ensembles. Art from every elementary student will be on display, along with displays of art from the middle and high schools.
On Wednesday, the Showcase runs from 5:30 to 9 p.m.
Musical performances will be held at 6:30 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. with performance by the steel drums, bands, choirs, orchestras and drama program. The all third grade choir performance will also take place Wednesday evening.
Dante’s Inferno will offer gourmet hot dogs to attendees both nights.
The Fine Arts Advisory Committee is made up on volunteer parents, teachers and other members of the community. The FAAC raises money, largely through the Showcase, the support arts education in schools.
Tickets are available online ahead of the event for $10 for a single ticket, or $15 at the door. Students are free.
