Mercer Island freshman Grace Wold broke a long held swimming record during the district meet last weekend at Mary Wayte Pool.
Wold broke MIHS standout Mary Wayte’s 100-yard backstroke record, set in 1981. Wold finished the district race in 57.74 seconds, ahead of Wayte’s 57.96 record setting time.
Wold has also smashed the existing freshman record for the 200-yard individual medley race. Wold swan the medley race in 2:07.31, beating the record set in 1994 by Chace Kloppenburg by over two seconds. Kloppenburg finished the 1994 event in 2:09.48.
