Letter | Mercer Island Community Fund supports Shakespeare

The Seattle Shakespeare Company is pleased to announce that we are the recipient of a grant from the Mercer Island Community Fund, supporting our 19th annual Wooden O free Shakespeare in the Parks series.

The Seattle Shakespeare Company is pleased to announce that we are the recipient of a grant from the Mercer Island Community Fund, supporting our 19th annual Wooden O free Shakespeare in the Parks series. We are only able to offer our productions at no charge to the entire community due to the great support we get from organizations like the Mercer Island Community Fund.

This summer, our productions will be “Twelfth Night” and “The Winter’s Tale.” They will play in 11 cities across the region; however, Mercer Island’s Luther Burbank and Mercerdale Parks will be our home bases, hosting 18 performances during July and August of 2012.

Wooden O was founded by Mercer Island High School graduates. The company merged with the Seattle Shakespeare Company in 2008, allowing both groups to better pursue a mission of uplifting and accessible classical theater. We continue to work closely with the Mercer Island Arts Council, Parks and Recreation, and other local civic funders to bring outstanding productions to the Island. We are very grateful for the support of the Mercer Island Community Fund and thank them for their generous support.
