Theft

A woman living in the 7600 block of 80th Place S.E. suspects that contractors stole jewelry from her home. According to the police report, the left occurred over a two-month period. The total loss of jewelry, which included diamond and sapphire rings, is $10,600.

An Island woman reported that her wallet was stolen from her car while parked at the Boys and Girls Club. According to the police report, the woman ran into the club to collect her children. She was gone for about 10 minutes. When she returned to the car, which had been unlocked, she discovered that her wallet was missing from her purse. Two bank cards and three credit cards were stolen. The woman’s Target Visa card was fraudulently used twice in Seattle.

Vandalism

A Mercer Island maintenance crew member found large amounts of spray paint graffiti on the concrete terrace walls east of the Lid Park picnic shelter on Dec. 9. One employee reportedly chased two juvenile male subjects, one wearing a painter’s mask, out of the area after he observed the youth spray painting the walls. There are currently no suspects.

An employee of West Mercer Elementary School reported graffiti on the building’s walls on Dec. 14. Graffiti was found on the outside walls of the public bathrooms and one portable. The total damage is estimated at $2,000.

Arrests

Mercer Island police arrested a Kent man with an outstanding Auburn Police Department misdemeanor warrant in the 2700 block of Island Crest Way on Dec. 14. According to the incident report, the officer ran the man’s license plate and discovered the warrant. The driver was confirmed as the owner of the vehicle and arrested. He was transported to Renton, where he was turned over to the Auburn Police.

Police arrested an Island man driving a Grand AM Pontiac at the Starbucks on S.E. 27th Street on Dec. 14 for having a suspended license. According to the police report, a computer check of the vehicle revealed the information. The driver was pulled over after leaving the Starbucks, identified as the registered owner of the vehicle and arrested.

Drugs

A Walgreens pharmacist caught a man trying to pick up unprescribed medicine on Dec. 14. According to the police report, a man asked to pick up the pharmacist recognized the subject from past encounters and realized that the prescription did not match the ones usually written by the doctor. The pharmacist questioned the subject and started to verify his prescription with the physician. The suspect then fled the location in his dark-colored SUV.
