Rotary Islanders of May

Mercer Island High School students Sam Landsman and Deanna Wiblitzhouser have been named as the Islanders of the Month for May.

Mercer Island High School students Sam Landsman and Deanna Wiblitzhouser have been named as the Islanders of the Month for May.

Landsman plays tenor saxophone in the Mercer Island High School marching band, wind symphony and morning jazz band. In the Band Student Advisory, he is a representative of the wind symphony. He is also a Bridges leader and ultimate frisbee team member.

Landsman’s community involvement includes bar and bat mitzvah tutoring at Herzl Ner Tamid. He also volunteers with the Friendship Circle and Seattle Achim USY Chapter Executive Board. At Camp Solomon Schecther, he participated in the Oded Program, a five-week counselor-in-training leadership seminar. In his spare time, he practices drums and saxophone. He plans to attend the University of Washington next year, minor in jazz studies and study abroad in a Spanish-speaking country. He is the son of David and Mindy Landsman.

Wiblitzhouser is a member of the jazz choir, percussion ensemble and drum line. She plays JV girls tennis and participates in the Senior Service Club, Bridges program and Kids Corp. She is also active with the National Charity League, Village Theatre Kids Orchestra Percussion and DECA. Piano playing, cooking and baking are among her hobbies. She plans to major in finance and minor in international business at the University of Texas (Austin) McCombs School of Business. She is the daughter of Terry and Margo Wiblitzhouser.

Both Landsman and Wiblitzhouser are members of the National Honor Society.
