The Mercer Island boys basketball team improved to 8-3 this season with a solid win over Interlake. Despite a third quarter surge by Interlake, the Islanders won 82-47.
After Mercer Island scored 21 in both the first and second quarter, all while holding the Saints to just 15 points, Interlake charged back after halftime.
The Saints earned 25 points in the third quarter, more than the rest of their quarters combined, but Mercer Island still outscored them in the third with 26 points.
Sam Cohn had 22 points during the win, while Joe Rasmussen earned 15 points and Espen Platou had 14, while Kaleb Warner added 11. Nick Nordale posted eight points during the win and Justen Altaras had four, followed by three from Jack Shaddle. Sean Hughes had two points and Karsten Sherman made a free throw.
The Islanders will travel to Juanita on Friday night for a KingCo league game against the Rebels. The Mercer Island girls will start first at 6:30 p.m., followed by the boys at 8 p.m.
