Mercer Island tennis squares off with Sammamish, Islander fastpitch opens KingCo competition.

Girls golf beats Lake Washington

The Mercer Island girls golf team beat Lake Washington Monday, March 31 at Jefferson Park Golf Course. The Islanders shot 213 strokes to the Saints’ 262. Rachel Fujitani had the top score, shooting 40 strokes. Molly White took second with a score of 42. Kate Peterson was third at 43, and Giovanna Orecchio and Carsen Harkins tied for fourth, shooting a 44. Mercer Island will take on Sammamish at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 2 at Bellevue High School.

Kangs crush fastpitch in KingCo opener

Islander fastpitch had a rough outing in its KingCo opener against Lake Washington Monday, losing 13-1 to the Kangs at South Mercer Playfield. Lake Washington’s Olivia Smallman went 4-4, scoring 2 runs and batting in 5 for the Kangs. The Islanders will travel to Sammamish High School to take on the Totems at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 2.

Islander tennis squares off with Sammamish

Third time was a charm for Mercer Island tennis on Monday, as the Islanders won 7-0 over the Totems at Sammamish High School in a match that had been twice rescheduled due to rain. In singles competition, Melanie Lee defeated Tina Liu 6-4, 6-0, Caroline Hamilton won over Ha Nguyen 6-0, 6-0, Miji Suhr beat Jessica Jou 6-1, 6-0 and Kimia Preston won over Katie Lachasse 6-0, 6-0. In doubles, Caroline Dillon and Jamie Mounger beat Daniel McCormach and Jama Gantulsa 6-4, 6-3. Catherine Seifert and Fiona Brasfeld won over Olivia Tremblay and Jennifer Chi 6-1, 6-0, and Chloe Gage and Kelly Hanschen defeated Taryn Okamoto and Brenda Lee 6-1, 6-0. Mercer Island will take on Interlake at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, April 1 at Interlake High School.
