I-90/80th Ave. SE ramp closure; then 24/7 HOV lane Mercer Island to Bellevue
Carpoolers and bus riders who don’t share the same schedule as I-90’s reversible express lanes are about to get a new option – an around-the-clock HOV lane from Mercer Island to Bellevue. Earlier this morning, Thursday, March 29, transportation officials met on Mercer Island to dedicate the newly realigned 80th Avenue Southeast on-ramp for direct access to the new HOV lane.
The event marks completion of full-time HOV lanes in both directions of mainline I-90 between Mercer Island and Bellevue and the end of stage-two construction for the I-90 Two-Way Transit and HOV Operations Project. The second stage also provides carpools and buses with access into the center express lanes before the East Channel Bridge for continued, HOV-only access to Bellevue Way and Interstate 405.
WSDOT will close the ramp after 3 p.m. Sunday, March 25, to connect it to the outer roadway. It will remain closed to all traffic, until 2 p.m. March 29, when reopens for carpools and buses only as a full-time on-ramp to eastbound I-90’s new HOV lane.
