Carl Silverberg announced on May 27 that he would not actively seek the Position No. 4 City Council seat.

“The prime responsibility of any parent is to set an example for their children,” Silverberg stated.  “When I visited my mom in New York this weekend it became obvious that I need to spend more time on the East Coast and less time campaigning on the West Coast.”

He said he would endorse Jeff Sanderson, his former opponent, for election this November.

“Jeff and I share similar positions on the issues and I’m positive that he will do a great job in office. In fact, he was the first person I called when I made my decision this morning and he was most gracious,” Silverberg said.

Silverberg said that he would continue to be involved with other projects, ranging from Mercer Island High School to global health to Jewish life in the Northwest.

Position No. 4, a two-year unexpired term, was vacated by Tana Senn, then Joel Wachs. The current Council will decide how to fill the position until the general election at its June 1 meeting. There are five open seats in the November election, and now, Position No. 4 is the only uncontested race.
