The Mercer Island baseball team suffered a KingCo defeat to league rival Bellevue on Monday night, losing 6-3.
The Islanders led the game early on, up 1-0 after scoring in the first inning and holding the lead through the fifth inning. The team made it 2-0 in the top of the sixth, but Bellevue matched the score with two runs in the bottom of the sixth for a 2-2 game. Mercer Island tried to retake the game by adding a run in the top of the seventh, but Bellevue scored four runs in the final at-bat of the game to win the match.
Mercer Island had three runs off six hits and four errors, while Bellevue had six runs off five hits and four errors.
Steven Petrie was 2-3 at the plate, while Nick Chandler was 1-2 with a double. Alphonso Gonzalez pitched for four innings, allowing one hit and no runs. Other pitchers in the game included Alex Himstead, Aidan Plummer and Keegan Ogard.
The Islanders will face Lake Washington on Wednesday, April 17 in a 6 p.m. game at Island Crest Park.
