Bernie Averill, 88, passed away peacefully November 15, 2013 surrounded by his family. He was born March 7, 1925 in Newcastle, WA. Bernie was raised in Snohomish, WA. He entered the Navy after high school and fought in both WW II and the Korean War. Once he returned from duty he attended and graduated from the University of Oregon. He also played baseball at the U of O.

He completed a Masters of Education degree at Eastern Washington University. He taught and coached junior high and high school at Medford, Mossy Rock, Manson, Dayton and Mercer Island school districts. He enjoyed many years of retirement traveling, fishing, golfing and watching sports.

He is survived by his wife Margaret Booth-Averill, children Barrett, Brian (Annaemei), Steve and Diane (Eric) Tomita, grandchildren Lee (Bobbi Jo), Lauren (Luis), Elsa (Bo), Meredith (Daryl) Dessens, Nicole (Michael) Sprangers, Whitney Tomita, Keegan Tomita and Trisha Averill and great grandchildren Leyla Lemus-Averill and Miki Tamsin Koek. He also is survived by his two brothers Earl (Pat) and Lester (Ann). He is proceeded in his death by his infant daughter Aleta and his wife Myra.

A service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, November 23rd at Mercerwood Shore Club, 4150 East Mercer Way, Mercer Island, WA 98040.
