Minor in possession
An 18-year-old Island resident was arrested for drinking and furnishing alcohol to minors when he hosted a party at his house in the 7200 block of West Ridge Road on the night of April 26. Officers responded to a complaint about an underage party around midnight and arrested the young man after he admitted to drinking.
Fraud
Someone tried to wire money using the debit card number of a 65-year-old Island resident a few days after the victim noticed his card was swiped in two different machines at a local restaurant around 2 p.m., April 17. The transaction was denied because the proper PIN number was not used.
Burglaries
An 85-year-old Islander’s home in the 5200 block of 82nd Avenue S.E. was ransacked and burglarized between 11 a.m. and 1:10 p.m. on April 25 after someone kicked in a basement door to gain entry. Nothing appeared to have been stolen, but the homeowner plans to notify the police if anything is missing later.
Similarly, another home in the 9300 block of S.E. 70th Place was ransacked and burglarized between 11:40 a.m. and 1 p.m., though it appeared that nothing was stolen. According to the police report, the 58-year-old victim returned home to find her front door open and several items strewn about.
Auto accidents
A 17-year-old Islander crashed his car into a ditch in the 5400 block of East Mercer Way around 7:45 p.m. on April 23. According to the accident report, the teen drove on the soft right shoulder of a sharp curve, and after he overcorrected his steering, he lost control of the car and fish-tailed into a ditch. The front end of the car was damaged, but the young man was not injured.
An Island teen made the mistake of letting his 10-year-old brother steer his car as they ran off the road and collided with parked cars in front of a home in the 7300 block of Mercer Terrace Drive around 6 p.m. on April 20. According to the police report, the 16-year-old driver let his younger brother take control of the steering wheel from the passenger seat but the pair lost control while taking a right turn onto Mercer Terrace. The driver accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brakes and drove the car into the yard of a nearby home, where it continued through some bushes over a rock retaining wall and into a parked car in the driveway. The collision pushed one parked car into the other alongside it.
Dog bite
A neighbor’s dog bit a 51-year-old Islander’s right pant leg while he was working in his yard in the 6400 block of 77th Avenue S.E. around 3:45 p.m., April 23. The man was not injured.
Arrests
Police arrested two men in their late 20s for driving a stolen car in the 7800 block of S.E. 28th Street around 5:15 p.m., April 22.
