Mercer Island falls to Newport in extra innings | Baseball results

After their first meeting was delayed over a week due to weather conditions, the Mercer Island baseball team finally got their chance to play Newport in a non-conference game. The match went into extra innings, but the Islanders fell 4-3 to the 4A Knights.

After their first meeting was delayed over a week due to weather conditions, the Mercer Island baseball team finally got their chance to play Newport in a non-conference game. The match went into extra innings, but the Islanders fell 4-3 to the 4A Knights.

Newport was up 2-0 at the end of the first inning, and stayed in the lead through the third, before Mercer Island tied the game with two runs at the top of the third. After a scoreless fourth, the Knights added one run in the fifth, followed by the Islanders tying the game in the sixth at three runs.

Going into extra innings, neither team added a run in the seventh, but Newport added one run in the bottom of the eighth to win the game.

Newport had five hits during the game with one error, while Mercer Island had three hits and one error.

The Islanders will travel to play 4A Bothell at Bothell High School on Saturday, March 24 for a 1 p.m. game. The team will then play Juanita on Monday, April 2 at 4 p.m. at Lee Johnson Field.
