Hosting Bellevue in a game delayed a day by rain, Mercer Island won by one run, 6-5 Tuesday evening.

The Islanders, during senior night, honored the team’s seven seniors.

Against Bellevue, the Islanders were the first to run the bases, up 1-0 at the end of the first inning. Bellevue’s Drew Quinlin, who pitched the first five innings, and Hunter Goldberg, gave the opposing team’s batters a tough time for three innings, while Mercer Island held the 1-0 lead. Bellevue was the first to break through in the top of the fifth, scoring five runs, but the Islanders added five of their own in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead and the win.

Chris Lawler earned the win, pitching the final two innings, allowing just one hit and no runs, while striking out two. Goldberg, who pitched for five innings, had five hits, five runs and four strikeouts.

At the plate, runs were scored by Lawler, Matt Orehek, Alex Himstead, Isak Morris, Philip Pugel and Zach Rothenberg.

The team will travel to play Sammamish on Wednesday, May 2 at 4:30 p.m. and will play at Seattle Prep on Thursday, May 3 at 3:30 p.m.
