Island Graphic Services goes home, Wells Fargo opens Wealth Management Center
Island Graphic Services moving
Island Graphic Services, at 2711 76th Ave. S.E., is moving to 3839 80th Ave. S.E., the home of the business owners, Ric and Lari Power. Though they’d just gotten fixed up after a car ran into the front door of Island Graphic Services in May of last year, Ric Power said the move has nothing to do with the crash.
“Hartford and Red Shield Insurance did a beautiful job covering all our damage and all our loss,” said Power. “But this (move) has been in the works for over a year, due to the changes in the graphic arts that have caused people to communicate with us by PDF, electronically, so they can go from their desktop to our output without crossing the living room.”
So an office for their services has become less necessary. “Actually, the commute was killing me, what with oil prices the way they are,” quipped Power.
The new business in the old Island Graphic Services space will be Elegant Estates, a high-end home decor store with antiques and consignment home wares, run by Island residents Cathye Carnes and Ginger Maron.
IGS started in 1984 in the Power home, and moved to the Thomas Center building in 1997. “Now we’re moving back, consolidating our operation,” said Power. “We’ve always had our letterpress and bindery there (at home).”
Power said that they decided to move their letterpress to a shop on Beacon Hill, with the caveat that he retain rights to use it himself for the occasional jobs that need die-cutting or hand-set type. IGS will be in full operation at its new location today.
Power said IGS has been getting work from all over, including the sports team, Seattle Thunder, Fellowship for Reconciliation and Mercer Island School District.
“We have our digital hub and our lithographic production,” said Power. “We’re only moving a half-mile from where we’d been, and we still welcome walk-in clients at our new location.”

Wells Fargo opens money management center
Wells Fargo Bank, at 3001 78th Ave. S.E., has finished construction on a 1,136- square-foot addition that contains its Wealth Management Center. The WMC is on the east side of the building (the side facing 78th Avenue S.E.) and required the removal of five parking spaces and some landscaping. Wells Fargo added seven parking spaces for the new center.
“We’ve grown extensively over the past five years,” said branch manager James Smith. “The Wealth Management Center is a continuation of our mission to work with our partners within Wells Fargo to meet and exceed our clients financial services needs.”
Construction to expand the existing 4,992-square-foot space, began last August and was completed in December. Wells Fargo also renovated the interior of the bank with new carpeting, painting the walls, new furniture and new landscaping.
“We’ve been in dire need of a face-lift inside the branch,” said Smith. “It’s been a long time coming, and I’m extremely excited about it.”
