Girls tennis wins back-to-back
The Mercer Island girls tennis team won its second meet in two days, beating Issaquah 6-1 Wednesday, March 19 at Mercer Island High School. In singles competition, Mercer Island’s Melanie Lee lost to Issaquah’s Kristen Cheung 6-1, 6-0, while the Islanders’ Caroline Hamilton defeated Regina Darahouski 6-2, 6-0. Sarah Sweet won over Ellen MacNary 6-3, 6-0, and Miji Suhr beat Carly Ruggles 6-2, 7-5. The Islander teams won out in doubles competition, with Gabby Venditti and Lydia Venditti winning over Kelsey Wilson and Halle Gordon 6-2, 6-2. Jamie Mounger and Caroline Dillon beat Sami Mittman and Lucy Huffman 6-1, 6-4, and Chloe Gage and Kimia Preston defeated Inyoung You and Chrstine Park 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-5). Next for the Islanders will be a non-conference match against Skyline at 3:45 p.m. Monday, March 24 at Skyline High School.
Boys lacrosse improves to 3-0
The Mercer Island boys lacrosse team improved to 3-0 with a 17-4 win over Lake Washington Wednesday, March 19 at the Kirkland Lacrosse Center. Peter Mahony had 4 goals and 2 assists for the Islanders, while Brett Bottomley had 3 goals and an assist. In goal, Benji Rothenberg and Scott Lee each had 3 saves for Mercer Island. Next up, the Islanders will take on Eastlake at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 22 at Mercer Island High School.
Girls water polo loses to Newport
The Islander girls water polo team suffered its first loss of the season, losing to Newport 5-0 Wednesday at Newport High School. The loss dropped the Islanders to 1-1 on the season. Mercer Island will take on Roosevelt at 3:30 p.m. Friday, March 21 at Mary Wayte Pool.
Boys soccer loses to Roosevelt, 3-1
Mercer Island boys soccer lost to Roosevelt 3-1 Wednesday night at Mercer Island High School. Sean Bender scored Mercer Island’s lone goal, putting the Islanders on the board in the 58th minute. The loss dropped the Islanders to 0-1-1 on the season. They will take on Lake Washington at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 21 at Mercer Island High School.
