Community Band and Summer Celebration | Letter to the Editor

Bert Pound thanks community for parade support; has never missed a performance since starting Summer Celebration band.

We owe a big thanks to Dave Menz and the 49 community members, both students and adults, who marched in the Summer Celebration! Grand Parade on July 11. The crowd was treated to a special performance this year when several band members stopped en route to sing and dance along to the song, “Celebration.”

The parade committee also needs to be complimented. By joining with Seattle Seafair, they put together more entertainment groups than we have seen since the bicentennial-year celebration. My only comment is that our own Summer Celebration Band – now so popular –  should never be placed at the end of  the parade.

I also want to thank George Trusk for the loan of his wheelchair and Judy Oliver who pushed me along as I played cymbals for the band. These 98 years and 9 months-old legs are not up to marching anymore, and these wonderful people have made sure I have not missed a performance since I started this band many years ago.
