Purse and electronics stolen in two car prowls this week | Mercer Island Police Blotter

Two vehicles were prowled on the North end this week. A radio unit and Garmin GPS were stolen from a Honda Accord during daylight hours on Jan. 26 in the 8000 block of S.E. 28th Street. The victim said the car was locked, but there was no evidence of forced entry. A purse was stolen out of a Honda CR-V the next day, Jan. 27, in the Luther Burbank Park south lot at 2040 84th Ave. S.E. The front passenger window was broken sometime between 9:40 and 11:30 a.m., and the prowler found the purse hidden underneath a blanket. The purse contained a wallet with multiple bank and credit cards, and $20 in cash.

Jan. 24

Arrest: Police caught up with a vehicle in the westbound Mt. Baker tunnel after it disappeared from the 5300 block of East Mercer Way during a license check showing outstanding warrants for the registered owner, including a Kitsap County $10,000 misdemeanor warrant. Police arrested the driver, a Marysville woman, 45, at 10:50 p.m. on Rainier Avenue South, and she was booked into the King County Jail before being transported to Kitsap County.

Jan. 25

Arrest: Police arrested a Seattle woman, 26, driving with a suspended license at 12:20 p.m. in the 2700 block of 78th Avenue S.E. for a $10,000 DUI warrant. She was booked into the King County Jail.

Jan. 26

Theft: A small safe was stolen from a closet, where it had been attached to a wall, sometime between Jan. 10 and Jan. 25 at a residence in the 8200 block of S.E. 82nd Street. The safe contained a pistol and ammunition. The homeowner, a 69-year-old man, found that it was missing after he returned from a trip. His granddaughter, 19, had allowed transients to enter the home during his absence. There are two suspects and three witnesses in the case.

Fire alarm: The fire department responded to an automatic residential fire alarm at 5:11 p.m. in the 4700 block of 90th Avenue S.E. Firefighters forcibly entered the residence through a sliding glass door to prevent a fire from happening after a hot toaster oven was left unattended with burning food inside, according to the fire department.

Arrest: Police arrested a Mercer Island man, 39, at 7:27 p.m. in the 7500 block of S.E. 28th Street with one count of malicious mischief and domestic violence. During an argument with his wife, the man kicked the kitchen table, which caused a laptop computer to fall off and break. He was booked into the Issaquah Jail.
