Police Blotter | Burglar steals seven computers and a host of other electronics

BURGLARY: Sometime between 8:50 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 31, a suspect used a rock to break a glass window in a house in the 4500 block of 89th Ave SE. A number of electronics were stolen, including a Canon color printer, a wireless router, iPad, three Dell laptops, two Macbook Airpro laptops from 2007, two IBM Thinkpad laptop computers, two Kindle Readers and a Kindle Fire. Also stolen was a checkbook linked to the resident’s Bank of America account and an Eddie Bauer backpack. A Latex glove was recovered from the scene and several latent fingerprints were lifted from the point of entry.

FRAUD: Sometime between August and November of 2010 somebody used a Mercer Islander’s personal information to open two accounts. When he applied for a loan and was advised that he had two credit card accounts that had gone to collections, he discovered the fraudulent accounts.

OVERDOSE: In the 4200 block of Shoreclub Drive, a mother found her 24-year-old son face down in the bath tub. It had been an hour and ten minutes since she’d last heard from him. The Mercer Island Police and Fire departments arrived on the scene, performed CPR for 10 to 15 minutes before a pulse was obtained. Evidence at the scene suggests a Heroine overdose. The son was transported to Overlake Hospital.

FRAUD: An 89-year-old Mercer Island woman reported a case of telephone fraud at 3:50 p.m. The suspect over the phone claimed to be her son in jail in Nairobi, Kenya, requiring bail for $2,000. The elderly woman wired money to Kenya and the subject picked it up in Nairobi.

THEFT: Sometime between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. a Mercer Island woman found an empty parcel box missing an 48 inch pearl and bead garland in Lid Park. The stolen mail originated at 5600 80th Ave SE.

INFORMATIONAL REPORT: An 83-year-old Mercer Island man with dementia was reported missing from Twilight Adult Family Homes. The man was located stuck between two fences at a property in the 4200 block of 83rd Ave SE. He was helped to safety and transported to the hospital. This is at least the second reported similar incidence with this elderly man.

PROPERTY FOUND: A Mercer Island man was having a new refrigerator installed when he came across an old BB gun behind the old fridge. Police took it into custody for destruction.

DUI: At 5:06 a.m. early Monday morning, a 28-year-old Island woman was found sleeping behind the wheel of her car. She failed her field sobriety test and refused to participate in a breathalyzer. The driver was arrested and later provide two breath samples resulting in a BAC of .212 and .202.

WARRANT ARREST: The subject of a Mercer Island warrant was picked up by the Lake Forest Police Department. The 23-year-old Kenmore man was taken into custody and transported to Issaquah jail.

FRAUD: A 37-year-old Mercer Island man reported his personal information stolen on Tuesday, Feb. 4. Several unauthorized credit card accounts were opened in her name but no losses were reported.

WARRANT ARREST: A 47-year-old Seattle suspect was transferred from King County Jail to Issaquah Jail on a warrant arrest.

TRAFFIC OFFENSE: Just after 4 p.m., a police officer found a vehicle blocking eastbound traffic in the 7800 block of SE 27th Street. The vehicle was about 40 feet prior to the intersection with 80th Ave SE. The driver of the vehicle couldn’t be found, and all four doors were locked. Mercer Island Towing was called to the scene and the vehicle was impounded.
