Quarterback Jeff Lindquist made his college decision on Friday, committing to the University of Washington.
The Mercer Island junior said Friday afternoon that he and his parents had a discussion over dinner about it the night before, and decided to sleep on it.
“I didn’t have any nightmares, so I went with it,” he said of picking UW. He’d previously said he had narrowed down his choices to UW and Stanford, where his older brother attends.
“I still have a lot of respect for Stanford,” he said, but the school just up the lake won him over.
“Overall UW was just a good fit — it has a balance of athletics, academics and social,” he said.
It certainly didn’t hurt that the UW football program had a big turnaround last season, led by coaches Lindquist said he’s excited to work with.
“The coaches are looking to do great things,” he said.
Lindquist will join a group of quarterbacks that includes Nick Montana, and Keith Price, who played in eight games last season behind Jack Locker.
“I’m looking forward to working with them and it’ll be fun to get to know them, too,” said Lindquist.
The Islanders have already scheduled their first game of the season, playing in the annual Emerald City Kickoff on Sept. 3 at Qwest Field against Seattle Prep.
Islander QB Jeff Lindquist throws a pass during a game against Newport at Mercer Island on Friday, Septemeber 10, 2010. The Knights beat the Islanders 28-21.
