The Mercer Island girls basketball team beat Liberty on Tuesday, Jan. 29 in the team’s final home game of the regular season. The Islanders won 44-33.
Liberty held a one point lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Islanders fought back in the second, scoring 16 points to Liberty’s six. Both teams hit seven points in the third quarter, but 11 points in the fourth for Mercer Island gave the team their final edge.
Kris Brackmann scored 14 points in the win, while Renae Tessem had nine points, Julia Blumenstein added seven and Marlo Cafarelli had five points. Jessica Blakslee scored four points for the Islanders and Suri Johnson and Christina Williamson each had two points. Arianna Moscatel had one point.
The Islanders will travel to play Lake Washington on Thursday, Jan. 31 at 5:45 p.m.
Mercer Island will play Interlake on Saturday, Feb. 2 in the first game of the KingCo tournament. The game is loser-out and will be played at MIHS at 7 p.m. The winner moves on to face Juanita on Tuesday, Feb. 5 at 4:45 p.m. at Bellevue College.
