Burglary
Unknown suspects broke into eight of the 13 North Star cabins in the 6600 block of East Mercer Way sometime between March 26 and April 2. According to the police report, the owners of the cabins were out of town when the crime occurred. The exterior doors of the cabins were forced open and the padlocks were cut off. It is unknown whether anything was stolen. The main pavilion, owned by North Star Park, was also broken into. Papers were strewn throughout the building, and three light bulbs were broken.
Theft
A man living in the 7800 block of S.E. 27th Street reported that his Trek mountain bike was stolen from his open garage on March 31. According to the police report, the bicycle was locked up but the lock was apparently severed with bolt cutters. No suspect was identified, and evidence was not collected. The approximate loss is $400.
An Island woman reported finding a bundle of mail on the corner of S.E. 74th Place and Island Crest Way on April 9. The four owners of the envelopes were victims of mail theft that occurred sometime between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. on April 9.
Accidents
A fender-bender occurred at the intersection of S.E. 40th Street and 88th Avenue S.E. on April 1. A man was stopped at the intersection, facing westbound. As he started to pull forward, he was struck from the rear by another vehicle, according to the police report. The driver of that car stated that she was looking for an address and could not stop in time. No injuries were reported.
Arrests
Police arrested an Island man for possession of drug paraphernalia on April 2. According to the police report, the man was pulled over in the 8600 block of North Mercer Way for a traffic infraction. He consented to a search. The officer found an improvised narcotic smoking device, knife with drug residue on the blade and aluminum foil in the car.
Police arrested a man for driving with a suspended license in the 7600 block of North Mercer Way on April 11. According to the police report, the man was pulled over for speeding. A computer check revealed that the man had 11 Failure To Appears on record, along with a Bonney Lake Police Department warrant for his arrest. The man was arrested, processed and taken to the Issaquah Jail.
Police pulled over an Island man for expired tabs in the 2800 block of West Mercer Way on April 5. According to the police report, the man smelled of alcohol. When questioned, he admitted to drinking. The man failed his standard field sobriety test, was arrested and transported to the MIPD. His blood point alcohol level was over the legal limit. He was given a courtesy drive home.
Police pulled over a Vancouver, Wash., man found driving with both rear brake lights out in the 3200 block of 84th Avenue S.E. on April 8. According to the police report, the driver, who was the registered owner of the car, had a suspended license. He was taken into custody, processed and released. His vehicle was impounded.
Police pulled over a Fife man for driving with a nonfunctioning passenger side brake light in the 2700 block of 77th Avenue S.E. The driver produced an Oregon license. A Washington and Oregon DOL check revealed that the man was driving with a suspended license in both states. There were also three outstanding warrants for the driver’s arrest. He was arrested and booked into the Issaquah Jail.
The King County Jail turned a Des Moines man over to the Mercer Island police with a $2,000 misdemeanor warrant on his name. The warrant was for driving with a suspended license multiple times. The suspect was booked into the Issaquah Jail.
Fraud
An Island woman reported that somebody made a purchase with her credit card on April 5. The suspect purchased a robe for $39. According to the police report, the victim informed her credit card company about the fraud. Possible suspect information is included.
