The Mercer Island wrestling team hosted a double dual meet Tuesday, Dec. 3, at Mercer Island High School. The Islanders won both meets, beating Hazen High School 37-27 and then Inglemoor High School 45-24.
In the first meet, Hazen’s Tyson Mowrey pinned Kevin Pedersen to win the 106 match. Mercer Island’s Taylan Yuasa pinned Greyson Whittstock to win the 120 match. Luke Wilson pinned Nick Vargas to win the 132 match for the Islanders, while Hazen’s Zach Moore won by decision over Trevor Gullstad 10-6 in the 138 match. Mercer Island’s Jake Pruchno won by decision over Cameron Felt 5-2 in the 145 division, and Hazen’s Malik Haythorne pinned Mike Ong to win the 152 match. Nic Meinzinger-Richards pinned Daniel Palanciuc to win the 160 division for the Islanders, while Hazen’s Jimmy Hyunh pinned Teague Frazier in the 170 match. Mercer Island’s Tanner Ranz won by forfeit in the 182 division, Evan Condon won by major decision over Jairo Barahona 15-2 in the 195 division, and Cole Nielsen won by forfeit in the 220 division.
Against Inglemoor, Mercer Island’s Kevin Pedersen, Taylan Yuasa and Luke Wilson won their divisions by forfeit. Trevor Gullstad took the 138 match, pinning David Wong. Inglemoor’s Riley Seward won the decision 6-2 over Jake Pruchno, and Mercer Island’s Mike Ong beat Eric Wong by decision 10-3 in the 152 match. After Mercer Island’s Nic Richards won the 160 match by forfeit, Inglemoor’s James Sullivan pinned Teague Frazier in the 170 match. Islanders Tanner Ranz and Evan Condon won the 182 and 195 divisions, respectively, by forfeit. And the Vikings took the 220 match with Tan Chov pinning Cole Nielsen.
Next up for the Islanders is the Clash of the Classes Tournament at Skyline High School Saturday, Dec. 7 at 9:30 a.m.
