The Mercer Island boys basketball team survived the first round of the KingCo tournament on Monday night, beating Mount Si 81-42 at home.

The Islanders, who entered the tournament as the No. 3 seed, move forward to face Bellevue for the third time in five days. Mercer Island will play the Wolverines at 3 p.m. at Bellevue College on Tuesday, Feb. 7.

During the game against Mount Si, the Islanders were up 16-10 at the end of the first quarter, followed by a 23-10 second quarter. Mount Si hit just four points in the third quarter, while Mercer Island ran up 17 points. A 25 point fourth quarter sealed the game for the team.

Brian Miller had 13 points, while Sam Cohn and Sean Hughes both had 11 points. Espen Platou and Joe Rasmussen had 10 points, while Parker Scott and Kaleb Warner each had seven. Chris Lawler and Karsten Sherman each added six points during the game.

If the Islanders win the game against Bellevue, they will move forward to Thursday night’s KingCo title game, against the winner of the Lake Washington/Sammamish match. A loss to Bellevue would move the Islanders into the third/fourth place match, also on Thursday, against the loser of the Kang/Totem match.
