The Mercer Island 10U Thunder baseball team conquered all at the Bend Elks Memorial Day Tournament, which took place May 28-30 in Bend, Oregon.
The Thunder went 2-0 in group play, outscoring the opposition 17-0 to claim the top seed going into the tournament. The Thunder outlasted Renton’s Bulldogs Premier 13-12 in the quarterfinal and edged Spartan White of Sammamish 2-1 in the semifinal. In the championship game, the Thunder beat the second-seeded Lake Washington Select 6-1 to take home the trophy.
Team members include Brandon Abulhosn, Neal Baron, Will Crain, Tyler Gilroy, Carter Gribble, Spencer Kornblum, Julian Peters, Baker Riffle, Mason Szylko, Jayden Wang and Matt Williamson.
The team is coached by Mak Abulhosn, Mike Gilroy and Les Baron.
The Thunder was one of two Mercer Island teams competing at the tournament, with the Mercer Island Lightning also participating. The Lightning advanced to the tournament’s quarterfinal round.
