The National Merit Scholarship Program has recognized 25 Mercer Island High School seniors as Commended Scholars. They are among 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation being honored for their exceptional academic promise.
These students placed among the top 5 percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2017 competition by taking the 2015 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
“Congratulations to these students and to their families and their teachers,” said Superintendent Dr. Gary Plano. “We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities, as they continue their pursuit of academic success.”
The MIHS Commended Scholars are: Lauren Cartwright, Cameron Cummings, Jacob Evans, Jane Gormley, Harris Hardiman-Mostow, Luke Kenworthy, Nicole Kim, Nicholas Lacrampe, Nicole MacDiarmid, Mitchell Meade, Sidney Montague, Cole Nielsen, Leah Paborsky, Rajan Parikh, Micaela Pirzio-Biroli, Daniel Pooley, Carmen Schafer, Eden Singh, Jonah Tang, Ryan Van der Hoeven, Maxwell Van Gelder, Nathan Wacker, Grace Wall, Roberto White and Nathan Wu.
In a separate announcement last month, 10 MIHS seniors were named National Merit Semifinalists, qualifying to compete for scholarships to be announced next spring.
