On July 14, the city of Mercer Island held a ribbon-cutting ceremony and Pianos in the Parks concert to celebrate the reopening of Calkins Point in Luther Burbank Park.

As part of Pianos in the Parks, a piano titled “Crossings” by artist Cynthia Wessling, was at the park from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Mercer Island’s Suzanne Zahniser and Connie Wible performed “Two Piano Tango” after the ribbon cutting, a performance sponsored by Mercer Island Center for the Arts (MICA).

The Calkins Point restoration project involved improving ADA access and protecting the shoreline.
