Rev. Bud and Donna Palmberg, pastor emeritus of Mercer Island Covenant Church, were honored on Nov. 20 as founders of Operation Nightwatch.
More than 400 guests attended a luncheon in their honor and applauded as the Palmbergs were awarded Superman capes as “Heroes of the Homeless.”
Operation Nightwatch was launched by Rev. Palmberg in 1967 and continues to provide food and shelter for 170 homeless people in downtown Seattle, along with an array of services.
The lunch raised $90,000 to support of the effort to get people inside and off the streets.
