Margaret Fay Dodge, 86, of Freeland, Wash., died at home surrounded by loved ones on May 20, 2009. Mrs. Dodge was born on June 10, 1922, in Peoria, Ill., to James and Fay (Harris) McCurdy.
The family moved to Topeka, Kan., where Mrs. Dodge attended and graduated from high school in 1940. It was at this high school where she met her lifelong sweetheart, Douglas Dodge. The two were married in 1942 in Glendale, Calif.
Mrs. Dodge dedicated her life to taking care of her family. Her husband pursued a career in the Air Force, so as they moved all over the country, as well as an overseas tour in Japan, she indulged in her love of history and explored every area’s culture.
The family moved to Seattle in 1965, where Mrs. Dodge was involved in the Totem Girl Scout Council. The family built a home in Freeland in 1978 and moved up permanently in 1984. It was there that Mrs. Dodge enjoyed the rest of her life; surrounded by her family, good times spent with friends, playing golf and bridge, and remaining active with the Girl Scouts for many years.
Mrs. Dodge is survived by her husband of 67 years, Douglas Dodge; daughter, Dyanne Carithers; two granddaughters, Lisa Martin and Kendra Leirer; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Susanne Gilkey.
