David Philip Davis
Phil Davis, 84, died Wednesday, September 21, 2010, on Mercer Island.Phil was born on April 28, 1926 in Moscow, Idaho to parents John DeWitt Davis and Elizabeth Bratton Davis. Phil is survived by his wife, Mary Louise and children Jennifer, Howard, Melissa, Larry, Bob, twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren. In the early years on Mercer Island, before a city recreation department was formed, there was a “Recreation Council”. Phil served as president for several years, overseeing activities such as summer swimming, based at the Mercer Island Country Club. Other activities over the years: coaching little league baseball and soccer teams for his three sons, also refereeing soccer for older boy’s teams. Phil helped Boy Scout Troop #624 at the Mercer Island Presbyterian Church, leading hikes, etc. He was Scout- master of the Troop for several years, and won the highest honor in adult scouting, the Silver Beaver Award, in 1972.Music was an important part of Phil’s life. He was proficient on the French horn and recorder. He always enjoyed singing and attending concerts. After retirement from thirty nine years as an engineer at Boeing, Phil returned to his love of sports, participating in senior baseball, volleyball, and pickle-ball. Phil was a member of the Mercer Island Presbyterian Church, serving as deacon several terms, and singing in the church choir for fifty years. Phil was also a long time member of the Mercer Island Lions Club, and enjoyed working with the members on community projects. His full life was a blessing to family, church, community and friends. A memorial service will be held at the Mercer Island Presbyterian Church, October 2 at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mercer Island Presbyterian Church Music Ministry.
