Margret Inga (Goodman) Hammond, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, died peacefully in her sleep while surrounded by her loving family on Sept. 17, 2009.
Mrs. Hammond was born in Seattle in 1918. She was a graduate of the Sumner High School Class of 1936, attended the University of Puget Sound and later the UW, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in nursing in 1942.
While at UPS, Mrs. Hammond met her biology lab partner and future husband, Charles Hammond. They married in 1943. Together, they raised four children.
Mrs. Hammond loved all family activities, boating, skiing, summers at the Tulalip Bay beach house, and winters at the Stevens Pass ski cabin. After many wonderful years of living at the beach house, she and Charles moved into a retirement home on Mercer Island to be closer to family.
Mrs. Hammond was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Charles Allison Hammond, M.D., who died in November 2008; son, Whitney Hammond, and his wife, Marilyn.
Mrs. Hammond is survived by sons, Curtis (Maureen) Hammond and Craig (Sheila) Hammond, both of Mercer Island, and daughter, Gretchen (Alan) Taylor, of Bellingham; grandchildren, Whitney (Hana) Hammond, of Boulder, Colo., Kristin (Ian) O’Hearn, of Kirkland; Matthew and Courtney Hammond, of Mercer Island; Allison (Edward) Switaj, Ryan and Stephanie Hammond, of Mercer Island; and Hannah and Haakon Taylor, of Bellingham.
A memorial service and reception will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 25, at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, 4312 84th St. N.E., Marysville, Wash.
