Evelyn White, 85, died peacefully at Regency Care Center, Arlington, Wash., after a full life. Born in Seattle, she was the eldest daughter of Tekla and Hilding Gronquist. Mrs. White attended Ballard High School and married Erik H. Erikson Sr. in December 1940. She was the mother of two children: Erik Erikson Jr. (1941) and Carol Jan Erikson (1953). Mrs. White was a housewife for many years, raising her two children on Mercer Island, and worked briefly at a bank. Her husband, Erik Sr., built homes on Mercer Island and the Eastside during the 1950s and 1960s. They divorced in 1969. She later married James S. White and lived in Michigan until Jim’s death in 1996.

Mrs. White was well-known for her bridge prowess, accumulating thousands of Master Points during her “bridge career” in Michigan with her husband, Jim. She moved briefly to Issaquah and then to Spokane, Wash., to live with her son, Erik Jr., and his family for five years; then moved again to Marysville, Wash., with her daughter, Carol, for continued care.

Mrs. White was known as the “gold standard” of mothers: patient, loving, caring, guiding, considerate, encouraging, helpful and generous — all of those attributes of the “perfect” mother. She will be missed. She now resides with her Lord and Savior; her earthly journey is over.

Mrs. White is survived by her son, Erik Jr., of Nine Mile Falls, Wash.; daughter, Carol Jan Erikson, Marysville, Wash.; and sisters, Sylvia Trepp, of Kirkland, and Edna Berger, of Mercer Island. She has many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who she loved dearly. Erik Sr. died in 1999.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22, at North Creek Country Church, off the I-405 Mill Creek exit, at 18321 Bothell Everett Hwy.
