Lois Privett Hirtler
Lois Privett Hirtler, 92, died Sunday, August 19, 2012, at the Life Care Center of Valley View in Boise, Idaho.Lois was born October 13, 1920, in Washington DC, to John Louis and Harriet Elizabeth (Orem) Preston. As a young girl, she traveled with her family by ship through the Panama Canal to Portland, Oregon, where she graduated from Grant High School in 1938. She attended Reed College, in Portland, and later moved to Seattle, and graduated from the University of Washington in sociology. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority.Lois was particularly proud of her parents’ role in helping establish Candy Cane Lane, which has grown to become a Christmas tradition in the Ravenna neighborhood of Seattle. In 1945, Lois married Alfred Curtis (Curt) Privett in Pensacola, Florida. They had been sweethearts since high school.Lois and Curt raised their daughter, Carol, on Mercer Island and vacationed on their coastal property at Copalis Beach. Her favorite pastimes included reading, gardening, ceramics, and beachcombing. Curt died in 1991 and in 1993, Lois married Robert Hirtler on the Big Island, Kealakekua, Hawaii. Robert passed away in March of 2008.Lois spent the last years of her life in Boise, Idaho, to be near her granddaughter, great-grandsons and their family. She cherished her roles as a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.She is survived by her daughter, Carol Christine Meyer and her granddaughter Allison Elizabeth Terenzio, brother-in-law Bob Brown, cousin Nancy Schubert, nieces Lynn Clausen, Karen Brown, Gail Quigg, nephews Bob Brown III and Russell Brown and her great-grandchildren, Bobby and Jake Terenzio.
