Mary Jane Elliott
Mary Jane Elliott, of Issaquah, died on Monday, January 14, 2013 at the age of 79 years.She was born November 19, 1933 in Boyne City, MI, the daughter of Harry and Clara Tompkins. She graduated from Boyne City High School and was the salutatorian of her class. After graduating from the University of Michigan Nursing School, she started her life’s work in nursing at Mercer Island Pediatrics. She then worked for Doctors Hospital, and finally at Swedish Hospital as Head Nurse of the nursery, and post partum, retiring in 1996. She was an active church member and chorister of every church she belonged to in her lifetime. She was gifted musically, not only as an alto, but at the piano and organ, and served as a substitute organist for Emmanual Episcopal Church, Mercer Island, and St. Paul United Church of Christ in Ballard. Her passion was classical music which led her to University Christian Church in the 2000’s to sing under the direction of the late George Shangro. She was married to Richard Gregory from 1954 to 1977 and had 5 children.In 1979, she married Del Elliott and settled in the Ballard area of Seattle where she and her husband lived for twenty-five years. After retiring from nursing, she dedicated her time to family and service in the church. When her husband retired in 1999, they moved to Providence Point, Issaquah during the summer months and south during the winter months in their motor home. They were privileged to enjoy several tours of the United States and Canada until health concerns made it impractical to do so. Survivors include several children and step-children: Steve (Laura) Gregory, Lisa (Don) Dell, Jim Gregory, Teri (Mike)Quaranta, Christina Elliott, Sherri Elliott and Steve (Sandy) Elliott. She is also survived by brother, John (Jackie)Tompkins, sister in law Jane (Don) Stone, 14 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her son Tony Gregory and brother Jim Tompkins. Memorial service to be held on Saturday, February 16 at 2:00 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 745 Front Street S. Issaquah, WA. 98027. Remembrances may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church.
