Manuel “Manny” Lott

Manuel “Manny” Lott, 95, of Mercer Island, Washington, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 5, 2016.

Manny was born on April 13–, 1920, in Annapolis, Maryland, to Louis and Rebecca Lott; he is survived by his brother Albert.

Manny started out working in his parents’ grocery store during the Great Depression where he helped stock deliveries and eventually took over the bookkeeping. In 1938, Manny graduated from Annapolis High School. At the onset of WWII, Manny joined the National Guard and was activated immediately, and about six months into his service, was stationed at Fort Lawton, the military base located in the Magnolia neighborhood of Seattle.

Perhaps it was fate, but upon searching out a synagogue in his new town, he met the Deutsch family whose daughter, Helen, caught both his eye and his heart. On March 29, 1942, Manny and Helen were married—it was a marriage that lasted 70 years.

Manny was sent to England in November of that year, where he served two years during the London bombings. Upon his return to the states, Manny and Helen started their family, giving birth to Sandra and a few years later, to Martin.

Throughout his life, Manny was very involved in his Seattle community, in politics, in real estate, and especially with his synagogue. From 1964 to 1977, he owned and renovated the historic Arctic Building in downtown Seattle.

Manny and Helen’s passion for travel took them all over the globe, but their family and their faith were the most important parts of their lives.

Manny is survived by his daughter Sandra (Gerry), son Martin (Sharon); grandchildren Tami, Joel, Jeremy and Jordan; and great grandchildren Yoni, Emma, Tova and Zachery, Torry and Kaya, Jossy and Micah, and Audrey and Sabrina.

Manny was buried at Herzl Memorial Park on April 6, 2016. Donations may be made to the Herzl Ner Tamid, the SJCC, or to your favorite charity in honor of Manuel Lott.
