Dixie Stanley Lysons
Dixie Stanley Lysons, age 96, passed away April 14, 2010 at Overlake Hospital in Bellevue. Born in Opportunity, Washington on July 8, 1913, she was the daughter of Roy E. Stanley and Dixie L. Belt. Mrs. Lysons attended Lewis and Clark High School in Spokane and graduated from Broadway High School in Seattle. While at the University of Washington in 1935, the Tyee Yearbook honored her as one of that year’s nineteen most outstanding students. After graduation from the U of W in 1936, Dixie became an active participant in the Alumni Association and served as president of the Alumnae Board. As a member of the Scholarship Committee, she learned the necessity of providing help to needy students at the college level. Her interest in obtaining student financial aid continued when she coordinated the Post High School Planning Program at Franklin High School. Throughout her life she remained in touch with some of the students she encouraged.Dixie was president of Delta Zeta Sorority and a past president of Franklin and Sunset West Children’s Hospital Guilds. In her later years she enjoyed spending time with her family, socializing with friends at Covenant Shores on Mercer Island, and taking cruises with her husband Hilton Lysons. After 67 years of marriage, Hilton passed away in March of 2006.Dixie is survived by son Dr. Donald F. Lysons, daughter-in-law Jacque Lysons, and grandchildren Jessica Lysons, Joshua Large, Sarah Lysons, and James Lysons. Remembrances can be sent to Covenant Shores Benevolent Fund or Overlake Hospital Foundation. A private memorial for family and friends will be held in her honor this summer.
