Shirley Margaret Farnham died on Nov. 13, 2008. She was born in Chicago, Ill., on Feb. 17, 1938, to Joseph and Elizabeth Farnham. The family moved to California, where her grandfather, Sam, was an MGM sales representative. After her father accepted a job position in Seattle, the family moved to Mercer Island, where they attended Emmanuel Episcopal Church.

Mrs. Aries graduated from Bellevue High School and went on to the University of Washington, where she majored in drama and was affiliated with the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. She was an early Miss Mercer Island and a finalist in a Miss Washington competition.

Mrs. Aries worked for a Seattle model agency, participating in fashion shows for Nordstrom, The Bon and other stores, in addition to appearances on local television. She was selected by photographer Joseph Scalea of the Seattle Times to appear in layouts promoting the Seattle World’s Fair in 1962.

Her love of drama took her to the Bellevue Playbarn, a theatrical group. Her most notable roles were in the Broadway hit, “Mary, Mary,” and “Born Yesterday.” She met her husband, Tony Aries, through the group and they continued working together on stage. The couple was married on June 25, 1966, at Emmanuel Episcopal in a ceremony officiated by Matthew Bigliardi. Their daughter, Allyson, was born in 1968.

After Mrs. Aries’ parents passed away, the family moved into the Farnham home on S.E. 59th in 1989. In the following years, Mrs. Aries served at Emmanuel Episcopal in various capacities including the Vestry and social causes.

Mrs. Aries is survived by her husband of over 42 years, Tony; daughter, Allyson; son-in-law, Rod; and granddaughter, Michelle.
