Harold Leroy Nordwall

August 13, 1933 – October 24, 2010

Harold LeRoy Nordwall passed away on October 24, 2010 at his home on Mercer Island, WA. Harold, also known as Hal, was born in Fort Morgan, CO to Harold A and Faye W Nordwall. He grew up in Hardin, MT and graduated from Hardin High School. Hal went on to the University of Colorado’s College of Engineering where he graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering. Hal also served his country with the Army Corps of Engineers where he rose to the rank of Captain. He joined the aerospace industry with North American Aviation in Long Beach, CA. It was during his time in Southern California that he met the love of his life, and welcomed his daughters into the world. Hal relocated many times during his career before he finally landed at Boeing Aerospace and settled on Mercer Island. Hal worked on numerous unmanned space programs including Mariner and Viking, as well as manned missions including Apollo and the Space Shuttle program. His final project before retiring from Boeing was the IUS program. In his later years, Hal enjoyed travelling the world and spending time with his family and dear friends. Hal lost his soulmate in early September, and six weeks later he succumbed to a broken heart. Hal is predeceased by his beloved wife of 50 years, Lois Nordwall. He is survived by his oldest daughter Patricia Smith, her husband Douglas, and grandson Daniel of Farmington Hills, MI; and his youngest daughter Alice Nordwall of Bellevue, WA. He was a wonderful father and leaves behind many special memories in our hearts. We all love you and miss you very much.
