Dr. Henry Howard Schwartz Jr., 87, died on Sept. 14, 2009. Dr. Schwartz was born on April 10, 1922, in Seattle, Wash., to parents Dr. Henry Howard Sr. and Mary Meltzer Schwartz, and lived on Mercer Island for 37 years. He was the eldest of two, and was preceded in death by his sister, Myra Olds.
Dr. Schwartz graduated with a bachelor’s degree in science from the University of Washington and earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery degree from University of Oregon. He was in private dentistry practice until his retirement in 1997.
Dr. Schwartz is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Evan Andres of Seattle, son and daughter-in-law Jeffrey and Katharine Schwartz of Sarasota, Fla. and daughter Susan Friedlander of Palm Springs, Calif. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Olivia, 8, and Alexander, 4, Schwartz of Sarasota, Fla., and many beloved friends.
He lived his life with integrity and his generosity and kind heart were an inspiration to all who loved him.
A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at La Medusa restaurant in Columbia City, from 5 to 8 p.m., with a reading at 7 p.m. in his honor.
