Dorothea Scandella
Dorothea Scandella, 72, passed away due to complications from Alzheimer’s Disease.
A Swiss immigrant, Dorothea grew up on a farm in rural North Carolina and worked her way through college, and then a PhD in biology. She spent her career as a genetic researcher, an instructor in the biotech industry, and the leader of a laboratory conducting basic research in hematology. She traveled all over the world to present her work as a scientist.
Dorothea loved spending time in the mountains, hiking, playing tennis, and tending to her garden. She took advantage of the natural beauty of the Puget Sound area during her final years.
She is survived by her son, Nathan, and daughter-in-law, Dieu, of Seattle.
