Robert John Townsend

Robert John Townsend, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away on August 18, 2010. Bob was born on March 17, 1926 in St. Louis, MO. Like many of his generation, Bob served his country honorably during WWII. He was very proud of his experiences in the U.S. Navy. He then earned a degree in Engineering through the GI Bill. Engineering was Bob’s passion. He was truly fulfilled by his work. Bob spent ten years living in Aruba and Iran while working for Standard Oil. In 1962, Bob relocated his family to Mercer Island and began a nearly 50-year career with Boeing. He frequently expressed his gratitude and good fortune to be a Boeing Engineer. He found great fulfillment in his work with colleagues. Bob will always be remembered by his family for his gentle, generous, and humble nature. He is survived by, Carmen, his wife of 55 years; his daughter Robbie (Mike); and grandchildren Zach, Abigail, Creighton, and Cordelia. Bob was predeceased by his son Schuyler. The family would like to thank the caring staff of Wynwood and Evergreen Hospice for their compassion and support. Memorial plans will be forthcoming.
