Five car prowls reported in three days in Mercer Island | Police Blotter

The blotter consists of officers’ accounts of crimes and other incidents in Mercer Island. Persons arrested are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

Oct. 24

SHOPLIFTING: A suspect stole phone chargers from a store at 12:18 a.m. in the 2900 block of 78th Ave. SE.

PROWLING: A vehicle window was shattered at 6:49 a.m. in the 4700 block of 86th Ave. SE, but it appeared that the vehicle was not searched, and nothing was missing.

ANOTHER PROWL: A car prowl and theft were reported at 7:26 a.m. in the 8700 block of SE 71st St.

ATTEMPTED BURGLARY: Someone entered a storage shed and removed some items. Neither the gate or shed were locked. The items were left on the ground just inside the gate, and there was no damage to the property.

MAIL THEFT: Mail was reported stolen from numerous addresses in the 8400 block of SE 45th St. at 9:01 a.m.

STOLEN PURSE: A vehicle window was broken out and a purse was grabbed off the seat at Mary Wayte Pool at 9:13 a.m.

MORE PROWLING: A car prowl, theft, malicious mischief and forgery were reported at 10:57 a.m. in the 7800 block of SE 28th St.

FOUND PROPERTY: A woman said she found two large ladders and a red gas can in the bushes adjacent to her driveway in the 2700 block of 62nd Ave. SE at 3:30 p.m.

FRAUD: A fraudulent iTunes card transfer was reported at 3:34 p.m. in the 9100 block of Fortuna Drive.

STOLEN SCENT: Miscellaneous change and a bottle of cologne were stolen after a car prowl reported at 11:05 a.m. in the 2500 block of 81st Ave. SE.

Oct. 26

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE: A driver was arrested for driving under the influence at 1:11 a.m. in the 2600 block of 76th Ave. SE and provided blood alcohol content readings of 0.177 and 0.173. They were released from the Mercer Island Police Department following processing.

FOUND BIKE: A child’s bicycle was found at Mercerdale Park at 11:57 a.m.

ANIMAL COMPLAINTS: At 12:51 p.m., an off-leash dog attacked another dog at Island Crest Park, inflicting bite wounds that required veterinary care.

SOCIAL MEDIA THREATS: At 2 p.m., a woman in the 7800 block of SE 28th St. reported threats of violence made over social media from her sister’s brother-in-law to her and her boyfriend.

Oct. 27

PROWLING: At 3:24 a.m., the driver’s side front and rear windows were found broken on a vehicle parked in the 4800 block of E. Mercer Way. The registration and insurance cards were taken.

MALICIOUS MISCHIEF: A window was shattered in a vehicle parked in the 8000 block of W. Mercer Way at 9:20 a.m.

WARRANT ARREST: At 11:27 a.m., a woman in the 2200 block of 72nd Ave. SE reported that her nephew, who was staying at her house, was a drug user and had a warrant out of Seattle. The warrant was confirmed, and the subject was arrested and transported to King County Jail.

THRIFT SHOP THEFT: A shirt was taken from the Mercer Island Thrift Shop at 2:50 p.m. Potential suspect information and surveillance footage were available.

Oct. 28

CREDIT CARD FRAUD: A victim in the 5600 block of E. Mercer Way said their credit card account was transferred to another address at 7:36 a.m.

FOUND PROPERTY: A small off-road mini bike was found in the 7000 block of 80th Ave. SE at 10:34 p.m.

Oct. 29

ASSAULT: A victim was jumped and assaulted while riding their bike along the path in the 2200 block of W. Mercer Way at 12:15 a.m. There was no suspect information.
