Today at 10 a.m., the Mercer Island Police Department helped implement a practice evacuation drill for students attending the Stroum Jewish Community Center (SJCC) and the French-American School of Puget Sound.
The practice event involves a brief closure of several roads and driveways in the vicinity of the two facilities, but is expected to conclude by noon. Barricades will be staffed by emergency personnel, and drivers must comply with their instructions. Affected neighbors and landowners have been notified.
This evacuation drill has been planned for several months and is not related to the recent Feb. 27 evacuation incident. This type of practice event occurs at various locations around the Island every year.
