DOROTHY HALL

Dorothy passed away on July 12, 2017. Born in California in 1931, she grew up in Redwood City and attended Lincoln Grammar School, McKinley Middle School and Sequoia High School. She met her future husband Owen Hall at Sequoia and started dating him her junior year.

During high school, Dorothy played the violin as first chair in the symphony orchestra and as a part of a trio with a pianist and cellist. She was elected senior queen by her classmates, as well as being active in the Student Court and many other organizations at school, church, and Camp Fire Girls.

Owen and Dorothy both attended San Jose State College. Dorothy joined Delta Gamma sorority. In 1951 she married Owen. They both graduated in 1952, Dorothy with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught third grade at Brittan Acres Grammar School in San Carlos, California while Owen served in the Army.

After Owen’s discharge in 1956, she left teaching and gave birth to three children: Carol, John and Nancy. The family moved from California to Seattle in 1973. During the following years, she was a loving mother, supportive wife and active grandmother. As a member of the Women’s University Club, she served on the board from 1983 to 1985 as Dining Room Trustee. She was also involved in PEO and Ryther, working in their Thrift Shop.

Dorothy is survived by Owen, her husband of 66 years, their three children, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will take place 2pm, July 27th at Mercer Island Presbyterian Church, 3605 84th Avenue SE, Mercer Island, WA.
