Cole Miller turned in a sensational season as a sophomore in 2016 on the gridiron.
Miller, who has played football since he was 7 years old, will be one of the top threats in the Islanders passing game as a junior during the 2017 season. The 6-foot, 185-pound junior said he will play a plethora of positions on the field for his team. He will split his time between wide receiver, slot receiver, running back and safety.
“I will play pretty much anywhere they need me to make an impact,” Miller said. “I think my speed and my ability to accelerate out of cuts and use my vertical [jump] is my best attribute.”
Miller is thrilled Islanders’ quarterback Nikhil Nayar will be throwing him passes for the second consecutive season.
“[Nikhil] makes the game a lot easier. He is a very intelligent person and he knows exactly what he is doing and knows where everyone needs to be on the football field on every single play,” Miller said. “I respect the guy more than pretty much anyone.”
The Islanders, who lost to the Bonney Lake Panthers 56-42 in a winner-to-state, loser-out playoff contest last November, have big aspirations for the upcoming season.
“We definitely want to win KingCo [Division]. That is our first goal,” Miller said. “Our second goal is to go to the playoffs and see if we can get further than we did last year. It was a pretty special season but I feel like we have more left in the tank.”
Miller said he expects to be more vocal on the field and in the locker room in 2017 than he was during his sophomore campaign.
“I would chime in a little bit [last season] but this year I’m really focusing on really being one of the bigger vocal leaders out there and also lead by example,” he said.
Recently the Mercer Island Reporter had an opportunity to ask Miller a few questions about her life away from the football field.
