Mercer Islander scales Mt. Everest, completes Seven Summits in record 42 days

A.C. Sherpa has completed his Seven Summit expedition, reaching the top of Mt. Everest on May 23 and setting a new record.

A.C. Sherpa has completed his Seven Summit expedition, reaching the top of Mt. Everest on May 23 along the Everest South Col route and setting a new record.

According to the most recent update on the Himalayan Sherpa Treks & Expeditions home page, Sherpa — whose story has been featured in the Reporter — climbed the Seven Summits in a record 42 climbing days.

The purpose of Sherpa’s Seven Summit expedition is to benefit the Himalayan Women and Children’s Foundation, raising money and awareness for two health care centers, three schools and a hydroelectric project in the remote villages of Solu Khumbu, Nepal.

Sherpa spends four months every year guiding mountain treks worldwide. The Seven Summits include Mt. Denali (McKinley), Alaska; Mt. Kilimanjaro, Tanzania; Mt. Elbrus, Russia; Kosciuszko, Australia; Mt. Aconcagua, Argentina; Vinson Massif, Antarctica; and Mt. Everest, Nepal.
