A group of five young men from the University of Washington were involved in a one-car accident, Friday morning, on Interstate 5 about 50 miles south of Redding, Calif. No one was seriously injured, but three were taken to an area hospital.

The crash happened around 8:20 a.m., south of the small town of Willows in Glenn County. The 19-year-old driver of the Ford sport-utility vehicle

was Samuel Sussman, of Mercer Island.

According to a report by the California Highway Patrol, the driver had fallen asleep.

The vehicle drifted off the west roadway edge, where it collided with a mile market, then traveled up a dirt embankment at County Road 68. The car then veered back to the left and overturned, slid across the southbound lanes on its roof and came to rest on the freeway. Three of the four passengers were taken by ambulance to Glenn Medical Center in Willows with minor to moderate injuries, including a possible broken arm. Sussman suffered facial lacerations but declined medical treatment at the scene. All but one of the occupants were wearing seatbelts.
